Protect Your Automatic Transmission from Excessive Heat with Our Easy to Install Cooler
Automatic transmissions generate a lot of heat, especially when coupled with a small high-stall torque converter. Be it a lot of stop and go traffic or some high speed runs, either of them can kill a transmission in short order if you don’t keep your transmission fluid temperature in check. Transmission fluid temperature should be maintained between 180-220 degrees Fahrenheit, just like your coolant temperature. You can monitor this with a and an if your transmission pan does not have a bung for a sending unit.
Production cars use an integrated transmission cooler that is mounted within the radiator’s end tank. However, this isn’t always an option on some builds due to custom radiator configurations and cramped engine bays. Mounting an external cooler anywhere there is airflow, and it is safe from road debris, is your next best option. Our aluminum double pass tube and fin style transmission cooler is a slim 2-1/2 inches wide and just 1-3/4 inches tall, allowing it to mount inside many open C-channel frame rails, alongside running board mounts, under truck beds, or just about anywhere you can find room to mount it, and at just 17-1/2 inches overall length that should be pretty easy!
Uses AN6 Hose or Convert to Standard 3/8-Inch Cooler Hose with Included Fittings
Our frame mount transmission cooler features AN6 inlet and outlet transmission cooler line fittings, ready to be plumbed with an to your transmission. At the transmission you’ll need screw-in AN6 transmission cooler line fittings as well. We recommend our for most popular GM and Ford 3-speed and 4-speed automatics. GM’s newer 4L80E transmission uses a specific pair of if that’s the transmission in your tunnel. Alternatively, we do include 3/8-inch hose barb adapters for the transmission cooler itself, as well as 3/8-inch to 1/4-inch NPT adapters that fit most transmissions that allow you to use standard 3/8-inch rubber with hose clamps as your transmission cooler lines for a nice budget solution.
Our frame mount transmission cooler’s 1/2-inch tubing and aggressive fin count ensures your transmission fluid is cooled effectively. Our cooler can be used as a standalone bypass cooler using all new transmission cooler lines and fittings, or in series with any radiator-mounted cooler using the included line adapters and some cooler line hose to help lower transmission temps without having to find real estate in the front grille area for a traditional cooler location.
